| Proof
reading skills
Few people are natural proof readers, but
everyone can learn to do it well. Our proof reading skills training
programme enables you to realise your potential. It will help you
to identify the most common faults in unpolished writing and will
give you ways to fix them.
What will be covered?
During this course, participants will:
• learn to proof read in 10 different ways
• become familiar with both the common ground and the
differences between proof reading and copy-editing
• recognise and rectify the most common errors in copy
• make the appearance and arrangement of words on
the page work to clarify meaning
• learn to anticipate the possible knock-on effects
of alterations
• appreciate when and how to alter defective prose,
and when it is better to leave well alone
• understand better the aims of the writers whose work
they are editing
• gain increased confidence in their own proofing and
editing.
Please note that the content of all Freshwater Academy courses
is tailored to the specific needs of the participants. The learning
outcomes listed above are only a guide.
